Obituary

Dr. George E. Magnin, 97, Marshfield, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2019 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Zion United Methodist Church, Marshfield. Rev. Lourdes Magalhaes, Pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, Marshfield, will officiate. Burial will take place at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 12, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls, Wisconsin. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Saturday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from 11:30 am until service time on Sunday at Zion United Methodist Church. George Ernest Magnin was born on April 14, 1922, in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, the son of Ernest and Martha (Garnier) Magnin and received his early education there. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he received his Medical Degree in 1946. He married Anna D. Magill on June 21, 1946 in Blanchester, Ohio. He served in the United States Medical Training Program and was primarily stationed in Kodiak Alaska. He joined the Marshfield Clinic in the Department of Internal Medicine in June 1952 becoming a member of its Board of Directors in 1954. He retired in 1992. Dr. Magnin was board certified in Internal Medicine and practiced this discipline for almost 40 years. He had a great love and zeal for the teaching of students and house officers. He served as preceptor for the University of Wisconsin Medical School from 1952 until 1966 and associate preceptor from 1968 until 1982. He was Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, Madison from 1962 until 1992. He, and others were responsible for stating the Internal Medicine Residency at the Marshfield Clinic and served as its program director for 18 years. His teaching resulted in the dedication of the George E. Magnin Medical Library, located in the Laird Center at Marshfield Clinic. For his association and work with Wisconsin Medical School he received the coveted Max Fox Award. George was an avid outdoor sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and was a lifelong fan of the Packers and Badgers. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Anna and their 3 sons, George (Kay) Magnin, II of Madison, David (Linda) Magnin of Sumter, SC and Daniel (Sandy) Magnin of St. Paul, MN. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Jonathan, Peter (Alyssa), Luke, Paige and Payton Magnin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Orrie Magnin.
