Dorothy E. Schlafke, 93, Marshfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Deerview Meadows Assisted Living, Marshfield. Dorothy was born on a very cold afternoon on January 24, 1922 in the Town of Lynn, Clark County to Charles and Emma (Nitschke) Helm. She grew up on a farm in the Town of Lynn and attended school there and also in Granton. She met her one and only true love Victor Schlafke and they were married on August 30, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. They were married for 59 years until the Lord called him home on October 26, 2000. In her early married life Dorothy worked at Engelbrecht Cleaners in Marshfield and at Karau's IGA, Marshfield where she worked for 32 years until her retirement in November of 1990. She and Victor raised their family of 8 in Marshfield. Besides working out of the home she was a full time loving mother. She enjoyed camping, traveling out of state or just going for rides and watching birds and spending time with family. She is survived by her children, Kathleen (Denny) Regele of Marshfield, Gene Schlafke (Betsy) of Sheboygan, Sandy (Ron) Knutson of River Falls, Larry (the late Bonita) Schlafke of Munfordville, KY, Chuck (Mary) Schlafke of Marshfield, Vicki (Rodney) Dupee of Marshfield, Jacque (Mike) Orlikowski of Rothschild, and Lou Ann (Gary) Seehafer of Mosinee. She is further survived by 33 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Victor, a brother, a granddaughter, daughters-in-law, and sisters-in-law. Our mother was one of a kind. She had a heart as big as the sky, always living life to the fullest. She will be missed. Her life has been blessed with a good family and good friends at Deerview where she was living at the time of her passing. We want to thank all the staff at Deerview. They took care of her as if she was their own mother. Thank you to all the Drs. And nurses that also took care of mom. Memorials may be designated in her name to the charity of the donor's choice.
