Donald G. Rasmussen, 86, of Pittsville, died on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at his home with his family at his side. He was under the care of Compassus Hospice services.
Funeral services will be 11am Saturday, May 31, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pittsville with visitation from 10am until the time of service. Rev. Gary Markworth will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 153 - Pittsville at the church. Buchanan/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Donald was born on May 18, 1939 to George and Ethel (Severt) Rasmussen. He was a graduate of Marshfield High School 1957. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. And served four years. During this time he married his first wife Shirley (Pember) and they had one daughter Laura. After his discharge from the Air Force in 1961 Don returned to Wisconsin. He met and married his second wife Janice (Herzberg) on July 27, 1963 in Cresco, Iowa. After their marriage, they farmed in the town of Wood for over 40 years, retiring in 2006. While farming, they had a herd of Registered Jersey cows. He also worked full time in the Nekoosa Paper Mill. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the church's men's club and Pittsville American Legion Unit 153. After retirement Don enjoyed travel and reading.
Donald is survived by his children Laura (Paul Henzig) Scherer of Milwaukee, Jane (Jeff) Hartman of Marshfield, Shelly (Kurt) Kaetterhenry of Melissa, TX and Eric Rasmussen of Pittsville; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren.
He is further survived by two brothers Wayne (Nancy) Rasmussen of Wisconsin Rapids and David (Pam) Rasmussen of Arpin. Donald was preceded in death by his wife Janice, his parents, his sister Jeanette Day and brother Fred.
