Donald D. Huber, 75, Arpin, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at House of the Dove, Marshfield.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, June 10, at Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home, Pittsville, with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the American Legion Post 153 of Pittsville. The visitation will be held from 2:00 pm on Friday until service time at Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home.
Donald was born on December 7, 1940 in Wisconsin Rapids, to Alphonse and Harriet (Dupee) Huber and was a 1959 graduate of Pittsville High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War serving from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1965. He was united in marriage to Judith Nelson on March 29, 1968 in Arpin. Before and after his military service he was employed at Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Company. He later farmed in the Town of Hansen from 1972 until 1999. He then worked at Arpin Lumber for a short time and then at Lynn Dairy until retiring in 2002.
Don took great joy in spending time with his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing the waters of Atikokan, Ontario. Many hours were spent in his workshop handcrafting wooden oak toys and furniture. He was always a farmer at heart, working his land and making maple syrup each spring.
He is survived by his wife, Judy and their children, Sheryl (Tim) Hiles, Dawn (Ken) Freedlund and Scott (Laura) Huber, all of Arpin. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Thomas (Jill) Hiles, Tyler Hiles, Shelby and Sydney Freedlund, Ben, Elliot and Abby Huber, and 2 great grandchildren, Lillian and Wesley Hiles. He is further survived by his siblings, Yvonne (Evan Smith) Jorgensen, Roger (Rosemary) Huber, and Kathleen (Dick) Allen and a sister-in-law, Judy Huber.
He was predeceased by his parents, grandson, Abraham Huber, and brother, Peter Huber.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the VA Hospital in Madison, Ministry Home Hospice and the House of the Dove for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers the family will designate a memorial at a later date.
