Donald L. Bauer, 77, Marshfield, passed away peacefully Friday, February 12, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care from a courageous battle with cancer.
Donald was born February 7, 1939 in Marshfield, WI to Edwin and Clara (Litka) Bauer. He attended St. Mary's School in Bakerville through the 8th grade. Donald married Joyce Hederer on August 20, 1958 at Corpus Christi Church in Bakerville, WI.
Donald started his working years when he was 16 years of age at Karau's and South Parkway grocery stores. When Donald and Joyce were first married he worked multiple jobs while farming, which included driving gas truck for Felkers, Skelly and Marshfield Oil. He also was a fill in bartender, owned and operated Don's Fine Food and for many years was a cattle jockey.
After retirement from farming in 2001 he went to work for Walmart, where he was still employed at the time of his passing. It was the perfect job for someone like him who loved to meet and talk to people.
He is survived by his loving wife Joyce, children Linda (Steve) Schneider, Cindy (Bob) Pankratz, Randy (Janet) Bauer, Bob (Sandy) Bauer all of Marshfield, Bonnie (Joe) Hartle of Auburndale, Steven (Becky) Bauer of Marshfield. Grandchildren, Sharon (Travis) Esser, Dawn Schneider (Brian Benjamin), Katie (Tim) Forst, Lisa (Kurt) Weise, Mike (Sara) Pankratz, Daniel Pankratz, Emily (Robert) Panzer, Derek Bauer, Jessica and Jake Bauer, Melissa Hartle (Dan Buslaff - Fiancé), Tyler Hartle, Brittany, Anthony, Zackary, Courtney and Jeremy Bauer. Great grandchildren, Sawyer and Carson Esser, Taylor Schneider, Owen and Kale Forst, Kylee, Cole and Cash Weise, Olivia Pankratz. He is further survived by two sisters Val (Don) Hanson and Eileen Weber both of Marshfield, sisters-in-law Alice Bauer and Nancy Bauer of Marshfield.
Donald's parents preceded him in death along with brothers Albert and Gerald, brother-in-law Peter Weber and two sisters in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at St. John's Catholic Church with Fr. Sam Martin officiating. Cindy Penker along with St. Johns' Funeral Choir will provide the music. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery, Bakerville. Pallbearers are Mike Pankratz, Derek Bauer, Jake Bauer, Travis Esser, Tim Forst and Brian Benjamin.
Visitations will be held from 4-7pm Tuesday at the Rembs Funeral Home and again on Wednesday at the church from 9:30am until time of services. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary service 6:30pm Tuesday at Rembs.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and staff in Oncology and Palliative Care who cared for Donald during his battle with cancer.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Children's Miracle Network or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
