Obituary

Dennis J. Kmiec, age 74, Marshfield, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at home with his family under the care of Compassus Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield, where a gathering for family and friends will be from 9:30 am until service time. Rev. Daniel Thelen will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will be in Veterans Field of Honor, Marshfield, where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Dennis was born on February 7, 1950, in Marshfield, to Benjamin and Mildred (Micke) Kmiec. He was raised in Greenwood and attended St. Mary's grade school. After relocating to the Columbus, WI area, he graduated from Columbus High School in 1968. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea from 1970 until his honorable discharge in1971. He married Kaye L. Paschel on November 1, 1975, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Bakerville.

Denny began employment at Weyerhaeuser Corporation in Marshfield which later became Marshfield Door Systems until his retirement after 48 years. After retirement he could not survive without working so he continued employment as a shuttle driver at V & H Automotive, which he truly loved, until his illness.

He enjoyed fishing, vacationing in Birchwood, traveling with Kaye, and finding cheese factories. He and his daughter, Denise collected milk bottles, and their expansive collection is on display at Weber's Store.

He served on the board of directors at First Choice Credit union of which he served as president. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 54 and served on the Military Honor Guard. He attended the Never Forgotten Honor Flight with his best friend, Fred and his daughter, Denise as chaperone. He truly loved his "girls", Kaye and Denise "Spud".

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kaye, and their daughter, Denise (Nate) Bachinski of Stevens Point, and a brother, Ben (Geri) Kmiec, Jr. of Beaver Dam. He is further survived by Kaye's siblings, Bonnie Pliska (Gary), Ronnie (Karen) Paschel, Gary (Marie) Paschel, Bev (Tom) Karl, Darrell (Linda) Paschel, Perry Paschel (Kris), Roxanne (Robby) Wegner, Michelle Plath (Carol), and Lisa (Kirk) Langfoss, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Stephanie Ann, a brother and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Patricia Kmiec, Mary "Micki" Follen, brother-in-law Lenny Pliska, his parents-in-law, Sylvester and Violet Paschel, and a nephew, Jason Paschel.

The family of Dennis extends their heartfelt thanks to Father Thelen for his prayers and visits and to Jeff for bringing Communion.
