Delores was born on April 8, 1926 in Rudolph, Wisconsin to John and Josephine Dorshorst. She attended elementary school in Rudolph and received her high school diploma in1944 from Deerfield High School, Deerfield, WI. She was valedictorian of her class and very proud of this accomplishment. Delores was married in1946 and had nine children that she single handedly raised. She became a foster parent in 1967. She gave newborn infants a home until they were adopted into their forever homes. This was an emotional experience for our whole family.
In 1969 she began her career as an Outreach Director for the North Central Community Action Program and retired in1991. Delores was instrumental in creating the Pittsville Area Food Pantry, a combined Pittsville effort located at her church. She continued this mission until she could no longer carry the donated items up and down the stairs.
She loved the Pittsville Community and would not have been able to continue to live the way she insisted without them. Her passion was baking cookies for anyone that knocked on her door. She supplied cookies for any event she was asked and there was always a supply on hand just in case.
Her faith was a very important part of her life and she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Pittsville.
Delores is survived by her children Michael (Candi) Zellner, Pinon Hills, California; Douglas Zellner also of California, Dennis Zellner, Wis. Rapids, David (Marcia) Zellner, Winnebago, Illinois, Donnajean (Marvin) Schiller, Pittsville and Jan (Randy) Kaiser of Auburndale. She is also survived by her sisters JoAnn (Floyd) Kessler, Cottage Grove, WI, Marilyn (Bud) Herman, Marshall, WI; Norma (Don) Bohl, Beaver Dam, WI; Judy (Don) Zenk, Aledo, Illinois; her brother Fritz (Judy) Dorshorst, Deerfield, WI and Sister In Law, Doris Dorshorst, Columbus, WI. Grandma ChristmasTree was proud to claim 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and dear friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Dianne Staver; sons Thomas and Donald Zellner, sisters Vera Haberman and Patricia Pollard, and brother Donald Dorshorst.
Memorials will be designated to the Pittsville Area Food Pantry and St. John's Lutheran Church.
