David J. Eckes, 54, Marshfield, died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield. Burial will take place in Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Town of Richfield, and serving as pallbearers will be John Schmitt, Steve Strobel, Jim Stone, Jerome Swensen, Dan Konrardy and Dennis Kundinger. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until service time at Rembs Funeral Home.
David was born on December 11, 1960 in Marshfield, the son of James W. and Dorothy (Vandeberg) Eckes and was a 1979 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School. He married Donna L. Buss on June 12, 1982 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield.
While in high school, Dave was employed at Chips restaurant. He then worked at Batteries Unlimited and for the past 25 years was employed at Central State Supply.
Dave was one of the original founders of the Central Wisconsin 4H Shooting Sports and had served on the board of Central Wisconsin Sportsmens Club. He had volunteered for handicap hunts and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren about wildlife, hunting, and fishing. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping and loved to cook and try new recipes. He and his wife did many home improvement projects together and he could fix almost anything. Dave was always willing to help and put others before himself.
He is survived by his wife, Donna and their children, Diana (Matthew) Ornes of Sparta and Dustin (Cassandra) Eckes of Birnamwood, and 3 grandchildren Lailah Eckes, Vanessa Ornes and Elliott Ornes. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Eckes of Marshfield and siblings, Susan (Tom) Peck of Eau Claire, Char Wilson of Hewitt, Rick (Connie) Eckes of Marshfield, Barb Eckes of Eau Claire, and Joanne (Kevin) Walsh of Puyallup, WA.
He was predeceased by his father, a sister, Karen in infancy and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard and Evelyn Buss.
