Obituary

David Daniel Dix, 68, Pittsville, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, after a valiant battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Veedum Moravian Church, 9158 County Rd. E, Pittsville, with Pastor Wanda Veldman officiating. Burial will take place in City Point Catholic Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive relatives and friends at Veedum Moravian Church from 9:30 am until service time. Following the service a luncheon will be served at City Point Community Center. David was born on April 25, 1947 in Monroe, Wisconsin to Lyle and Hulda (Feller) Dix. At age 13 he moved to Marshfield with his family and attended schools there. He obtained a Civil Technology Degree from Mid State Technical School in Wisconsin Rapids. He married Joan M. Grutzik on June 1, 1973 in Marshfield. David was employed for the Soo Line Railroad and later was co-owner of Newco Sales until retiring in 2009. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and had been an active member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Marshfield. He attended Veedum Moravian Church. He enjoyed his grandchildren, motorcycle riding, bird watching, trout fishing, and deer hunting from his cabin in the woods. He built bird houses. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Joan and their children, Christina (Kevin) Hyde of Oshkosh and Austin Dix of City Point and by 3 grandchildren, Phoenix, Wyland and Sienna Hyde. He is also survived by his mother, Hulda Dix and a brother, Lyle A. (Judy) Dix, all of Marshfield. He is further survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Judy (Dick) Zabawa, of Stevens Point, Jim (Sarah) Grutzik of City Point, and Jack (Kathy) Grutzik of Black River Falls, a niece and nephew, Melanie (Jordan) Franklin and Brian Dix and by long time friends, Gary and Linda Cummings and Delbert and Mary Voigt. He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle J. Dix. The family wishes to thank Hope Lodge, Ministry Home Care, Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital and Golden Living Center, Three Oaks, Marshfield, for the wonderful care that was given to David and a special thank you to Deacon Georgeanne Cusic for spiritual guidance.
