Obituary

Daniel Anthony Schecklman, was known to many as Dan, Red, or Shaky. More proudly, he was known as Dad, Grandpa, and Husband. On January 23rd, he passed away surrounded by love – holding the hand of the love of his life.

Dan was raised in Loyal, built a life in Marshfield, and spent his happiest years in Phillips on the lake. He is a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge. After graduating from FVTC, he built a career at Roehl Transport and then Trierweiler Construction. One of his greatest joys was marrying his wife, Lynn (Trierweiler), on June 9th, 1990.

Dan was a great man who truly connected to people. It was not uncommon to learn the life stories of anyone he came in contact with. He wanted people to know how valued they were. He loved a good story and a laugh, especially around the campfire. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, traveling, any project that caught his eye, and most of all, anytime spent with family. He was immensely proud of his family and their achievements, lovingly saying "I expect no less."

He was humble and kind, showing his love through actions more than words. All can attest to the help he provided to his kids, family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers – whether it was car troubles, plumbing, electrical work or simply diagnosing a problem and letting you know who to call. If it was broken, it could be fixed – especially if you worked on it together.

He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, his chuckle, his helpful hand, and his genuine connection with people. He loved his family, his friends, his community, and his country. He leaves behind a legacy of love and was truly grateful to everyone along the way. Dan was never defined by circumstance nor disease but rather his fight, strength and the life he built against all odds.

Dan is survived by wife Lynn; his children Paul (Chelsea) Schecklman and Claire (Mason) Metz; his granddaughters Lyla and Valerie; siblings Todd (MaryAnn) Schecklman, Peter (Angel) Schecklman, Lisa (Jeff) Hoff, Sara Eilers (Jeff Lukes), Lori (Randy) Seliskar, and John Schecklman; his brother-in-laws Roger (Sue) Trierweiler and Phil (Jane) Trierweiler; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ed and June Schecklman and his in-laws James and Patricia Trierweiler as well as siblings Billy, Paul, and Nicole in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church on Saturday, February 7 at 11am with military honors and a lunch to follow. Father Douglas Robertson will officiate; music will be provided by Lee Riekki and the Resurrection Choir. Visitations will be 4-8pm Friday, February 6 at Rembs Funeral Home, and at church the next morning from 10am until time of service. The Elks Lodge #665 of Marshfield will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow at 7:30 pm on Friday at the funeral home. All are welcome to celebrate the life of Dan.
