Obituary

Dale P. Sternberg, 74, Marshfield, died on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau, after a courageous two year battle with stomach cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, October 11, 2012 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:30 am until service time at Our Lady of Peace Church. Dale was born on June 19, 1939 in Madison, the son of Edmund and Violet (Pinneke) Sternberg and was a 1958 graduate of Monona Grove High School and a 1969 graduate of Arizona State University with both a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Social Work. He married Sharon Grinnell on June 18, 1960 in Monona. Dale had been employed at Wood County Hospital and Maple Manor Halfway House after moving to Marshfield and then at Marshfield Clinic as a clinical social worker for Adolescents, Marriage and Family Life, Oncology, and Infertility, until his retirement. He was involved in ASU Air Force ROTC, Jaycees, Big Brothers, founded Cornerstone, volunteered for Columbus Catholic Schools, was a CCD teacher at Our Lady of Peace, and a member of Vocation Prayer Group of Marshfield. He enjoyed fishing at the family cabin in Three Lakes, being a writer, author, historian, Civil War and World War II enthusiast, stamp collecting and spending time with family and friends. Dale is lovingly survived by his wife, Sharon, and their children, Jeff (Sue) Sternberg of Hewitt, Karl (Kim) Sternberg of Iowa City, Theresa Sternberg of Milwaukee, Eric (Sara) Sternberg of Mosinee, grandchildren, Danielle of Hewitt, and Blake and Mallory of Mosinee. He is also survived by his mother, Violet Sternberg of Marshfield and a brother, Gary (Linda) Sternberg of Oshkosh. He was predeceased by his father, Edmund and uncle, Edward.
