Clare was born July 13, 1927 in Charlotte, Michigan to Jesse and Edith (Short) Tomlinson. He attended school in Michigan. He proudly served our country by joining the Navy and serving from 1944 - 1947 in the South Pacific. Clare was employed at Consoweld Paper Mill in Wisconsin Rapids where he met the love of his life - Lucille Koller. Clare and Lucille were joined in matrimony on September 11, 1951. Clare spent his years raising his family, farming, and numerous jobs including working at the Auburndale State Bank, driving truck for Asphalt Products, Green Arrow, and Roehl Transport to support his family. After retiring from driving truck he drove the grader for the Town of Sherry - maintaining the roads and keeping them clear of snow.
Clare and Lucille enjoyed much of their married life on the farm in Sherry. In retirement they moved to their home on Maywood Avenue in Marshfield, and later were moved to the North Crest Assisted Living Facility in Stevens Point due to Lucille's Alzheimers.
Clare is survived by his loving children, Sue (Jerry) Uher of Stevens Point, Ron (Mary) Tomlinson of Arpin, Roger (Sherri) Tomlinson of Sherry, Shirley (Mark Fieseler) Clausen of Eyota, MN, Carol (Paul) Haffenbredl of Auburndale, Kathy Mrozinski of Milladore, Tim Tomlinson of Colorado Spring, CO, and Lee (Jolene) Tomlinson of Ashland. "Grandpa T." will also be greatly missed by his 26 grandkids and 23 great-grandkids.
Clare is also survived by his sister Yvonne (Ted) Hageness of Arbor Vitae.
Throughout his life, Clare enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, traveling, taking care of his yard, reading, family gatherings, and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. A few years ago he was allowed the chance to go on the "Honor Flight", which was a great honor and he vastly enjoyed.
Clare was pre-deceased by his greatest love, his wife Lucille in May 2013, his parents, daughter Sally, his sister Violet Litty, and his brother Jesse Tomlinson.
The family would like to thank North Haven Homes and Ministry Hospice for the care that they gave to both mom & dad.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established at a later date.
