Obituary

Charlene A. Breu, 85, Hewitt, formerly of Auburndale, passed away peacefully at her home with family at her side on Thursday, July 1, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 9 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Auburndale, with visitation to begin at 9:00 until the time of service. Rev. Murali Anand Rayappan will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Charlene was born on November 9, 1935 in Stratford to Loren and Amanda (Viegut) Winistorfer and was a 1953 graduate of Stratford High School. After graduation, she pursued a degree in cosmetology at The Beauty Culture School in Green Bay where she graduated in 1954. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert J. Breu on June 15, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburndale. Together, they raised their family and farmed for over 50 years. With wonderful parents as her example, she selflessly and lovingly cared for her family as a Mother, an expert cook, housekeeper and advisor. Grandma's house was where her grandkids came to get spoiled and over-indulge in her specialities: dill pickles, cheesy potatoes, Christmas bon-bons and cutout cookies. She attempted to disguise her goodies in the freezer with labels like "save for church" or "cherries" with the hopes they'd survive until Christmas. She also enjoyed a competitive game of "Breu Bingo" and Pictionary and watching her favorite TV shows, Wheel of Fortune and Dog the Bounty Hunter. She loved to tell stories of growing up in Stratford. One of her favorites was when her classmates would ask her what she did over the weekend and she would tell them she went sledding on "P". She would laugh after seeing the expression on their face and explain that it was the name of the road near them, Junction P. Charlene is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bob, and their children, Deb (Harvey) Sobiech of Reedsville, Scott (Val) Breu of Auburndale, Cindy (Joel) Bobo of Lexington, SC, Randy Breu of Marshfield, Jeff (Jeanine) Breu of Richfield, Kevin (Kelly) Breu of Auburndale, Kim (Scott) Mancl of Auburndale, Roberta (Dan) Lila of Wisconsin Rapids, Rick (Sandi) Breu of De Pere, Gloria (Jeff) Zaves of Menasha and Kristen Breu of Hewitt. She was blessed with 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Eileen Hoesly, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alvina Winistorfer, Robert Aschenbrenner, Marcella Breu, Ardelle Vandehey, Diane Breu, Victor Dieringer, Mary Lois (Wallace) Linzmeier, and Bernadette Breu (Dave Helgerson). She was preceded in death by her parents Loren and Amanda (Viegut) Winistorfer, a brother Lamar Winistorfer, sisters, Marcia (Wilbur) Bolen, Imogene (Harold) Custer, and Beverly Aschenbrenner and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, George E. Breu, Kathleen "Mitzie" Dieringer, Donald Hoesly, Donald Weber and Lawrence Vandehey, nephews, Tim Remitz, David Breu and Lawrence Vandehey, Jr., a niece, Mary Vandehey, and grandson, Drew Breu. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Carla and her "Angels" for the tremendous amount of love, care and emotional support during her final days, allowing her to remain in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving husband and family. In lieu of flowers a fund will be established at a later date in her name supporting local organizations close to her heart including: The Children's Miracle Network, ODC and The Ronald McDonald House. Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com The Dash By Linda Ellis I read of a man who stood to speak At the funeral of a friend He referred to the dates on the tombstone From the beginning…to the end He noted that first came the date of birth And spoke the following date with tears, But he said what mattered most of all Was the dash between those years For that dash represents all the time That they spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved them Know what that little line is worth For it matters not, how much we own, The cars…the house…the cash. What matters is how we live and love And how we spend our dash. So, think about this long and hard. Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left That can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough To consider what's true and real And always try to understand The way other people feel. And be less quick to anger And show appreciation more And love the people in our lives Like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect And more often wear a smile, Remembering this special dash Might only last a little while So, when your eulogy is being read With your life's actions to rehash… Would you be proud of the things they say About how you spent YOUR dash?
