Celine Seubert, 85, of Rozellville, WI died Saturday, May 17, 2014. Celine, daughter of the late Henry & Emma Schilling, wife of Richard "Dick" Seubert, passed in her home in Rozellville surrounded by the love of her husband and family. She is survived by her loving husband, Dick, six children Tim (Teresa) Seubert, Thomas (Ann) Seubert, Ned (Kathy) Seubert, Roy (Jean) Seubert, Connie (Pat) Grzadzielewski, Laurie Rock and three foster children, MaryAnn (Myron) Karlan , Jackie (Bill) Zenner and Joanie (Tom) Falk. She is also survived by her brother Francis (Rosalie) Schilling, sister Sylvia Rogan, brother-in-law David (Marlene) Seubert and her 15 grandchildren Walter (Heather) Seubert, Sarah Seubert, Becky (Keith) Zebro, Christina (Brian) Zaleski, Jennifer (Andrew) Franks, Rich (Jodi) Seubert, Brad Seubert, Andy Seubert, Chad (Shana) Seubert, Jamie (Josh) Elsasser, Robbie Grzadzielewski (friend April), Emma Grzadzielewski (fiancé Todd), Danial (Kimberly) Rock, David Rock (fiancé Alyssa), and Kathryn (Brad) Gerrits. She is also survived by 19 (plus one on the way) great grandchildren. Celine was preceded in death by her siblings, Lillian Frey, Marvin Schilling, Ralph Schilling, Hilda Phillip, and Elda McHugh. She was also preceded in death by one great granddaughter, Chloe Franks.
Celine was one of the longest heart transplant survivors in WI receiving the 136th heart in 1987 at the University of MN. At the time she was 59, and older than the usual cutoff to be eligible for a transplant. Over the years Celine was quoted by saying "At the time, they gave me 5 years to live, which was as long as anyone had lived with a transplant". In her usual fashion, Celine's sprightliness and resilience endured, defeating her odds. Grandson and NY Giant Superbowl champion, Rich Seubert and the entire family, with the help of friends at the Marshfield Clinic, set up an endowment to honor grandma Celine and raised over a million dollars to support cardiac research.
Celine and Dick were high school sweethearts and have been married 64 years. Their journey through life together has been a true love story. Celine worked as manager at the Village Inn in Marathon for years until they moved from Marathon to Rozellville in 1973 growing a robust business at Buck-A-Neer Supper Club with their son & daughter-in-law, Tom & Ann. When they retired Roy & Jean took over their part of the business to continue the tradition of serving great food with great hospitality. Celine loved life deeply rooted in her strong Faith, spending time with her family playing Sheepshead (in German), cooking hearty meals (as the only female allowed in the hunting cabin with the hungry hunters), baking her legacy apple pie for her family, and rooting for the New York Giants. Famous words that her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends who stopped by to visit Celine included "just stay a little while" which often led to hours of laughing, playing cards, and visiting. Celine has set the standard for what it means to be a Seubert- determined, hard-working, funny, forgiving, and a little stubborn when necessary. She gave an abundance of love to all those who have touched her life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Services to celebrate Celine's legacy will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday May 21, 2014 at St. Andrew's Church in Rozellville. Burial will be in the St. Andrew's Cemetery and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until service time at St. Andrew's Church. A St. Andrew's Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Our family would like to especially thank Laurie for being at her parent's side every day over the last year and all of the healthcare providers who have treated us like family, especially her primary Dr. Vijay Aswani, and her cardiologists Dr. Juan Mesa and our "Cuban cousin" Dr. Humberto Vidaillet. We also want to thank the hospice team that showed us kindness and dignity in her final weeks and days.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to contribute to Celine's legacy and help find better treatments and cures for heart disease, please comment "Celine Seubert's Endowment" and the family will make a donation to the Marshfield Clinic. Perhaps even more importantly, help us honor Celine's memory by registering to be an organ donor at www.organdonor.gov.
