Obituary

Catherine A. Poehnelt, 96, (Marshfield) passed away on Saturday, March 26th, 2022 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, April 4, 2022 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 8:30 am until service time. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Rev. James Weighner will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Catherine was born in Medford Wisconsin to Henry Joseph "Joe" and Mary (Foremski) Kraemer. She grew up on a dairy farm with her parents, Grandpa Nicholas Kraemer and five siblings. She attended Frey school in the township of Browning through 8th Grade; followed by Taylor County Normal School. On June 5th, 1948, she married William Frank Poehnelt at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Whittlesey, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2004. Catherine was an elementary teacher in the Marshfield area for many years. She loved gardening, flowers, crafts, family camping trips, playing games with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. During their retirement Catherine and "Bill" loved traveling in their motorhome. In recent years she enjoyed trips to Medford with her sister Eileen to visit with family members and playing cards. Catherine was a member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church and Parish Council of Catholic Women. Catherine is survived by her four children – Robert Poehnelt, Marshfield, Mary (Gary) Frey, Holcombe, Daniel (Mary Barkow) Poehnelt, Marshfield, Terry (Kathryn Ortner) Poehnelt, Marshfield, her grandchildren, Tammy (Mark) Nelles, Jesse (fiancé Jenni) Frey, Quentin (Nadine) Poehnelt, Nicole Poehnelt, Justin Poehnelt, Jonathan (Page) Poehnelt, and her great grandchildren Mariah, Madison, Tanner, Tyler, Logan, Payton, Damian, Tania, Whitney, Hayden, Alyvia, Emilee, Daniel, Xavier, Ryan, and Evan. She is further survived by Mary Ann Dassow (sister), Dorothy Kraemer (sister-in-law), Joann Fleischmann (step sister-in-law), Edward Leader (brother-in-law) and wife Connie, Tina Pillar (sister-in-law) and many nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, William Poehnelt (husband), Agnes Leader(sister), Henry Kraemer (brother) and his wife Loretta, Edward Kraemer (brother), Catherine Kraemer (sister-in-law), Eileen Rogers (sister) and her husband Jim Rogers, Tony Fleischmann (step-brother), Betty Fleischmann (step sister-in-law), and Harold Dassow (brother-in-law). We would like to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Miranda and Dani, for their exceptional compassionate care. Memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or ODC (Opportunity Development Center of Marshfield) Those we love don't go away, they Walk beside us Everyday.
