Carol M. Oertel Remus, 90, Stratford, entered eternal life on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Three Oaks, Marshfield. In her final days she was surrounded by her family and friends and her faith sustained her in life and carried her home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford, with Pastor Sue Eidahl officiating. Burial will take place in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery and Carol chose her grandchildren to be pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 pm until service time at Zion Lutheran Church. Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Carol was born on January 29, 1921 to Andrew and Nora (Canon) Gebelein in the Town of Green Valley, where she attended Davidson country school. She maintained a relationship with her classmates, going out to lunch with them, until a few years ago. She was united in marriage to Walter Oertel on December 9, 1939. He died on June 26, 1981. She later married Hilbert Remus on November 1, 1985. He died on July 30, 1993. Carol and her husband Walter had farmed. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and its ladies aid and volunteered for many functions at church. She enjoyed polka music and dancing, reading, ceramics, crafts, and playing cards. She had participated in church dartball league and served as the statistician. She was a Gold Star mother. She is survived by her children, Paul (Lisa) Oertel of Auburndale, Anne (Oertel) (Ron) Domres, Carl (Pat) Remus, all of Stratford, and Emil Remus of Anchorage, Alaska. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister, Wilma Wyman of Auburndale, three sisters-in-law, Emma Zawislan of Marshfield, Leone Ortelle of Fort Atkinson and Katie Oertel of Marshfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a brother, two sisters, two sons, William Oertel and Larry H. Oertel and a grandson, Larry P. Oertel.
