Obituary

Bernice L. Gessert, 93 of Marshfield died on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at her home on South Adams Avenue. Funeral services will be 10:30am Monday, August 26, 2013 at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield with Fr. Jim Logan officiating. Burial will take place next to husband Walter at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield. Visitations will be from 9:30am Monday until service times at Rembs Funeral Home. Bernice was born on June 17, 1920 to Louis and Minnie (Polizin) Leisinger in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the youngest of eleven children. Her mother was killed in a farming accident when she was 5 years old. After graduating from Sioux Falls High School she moved to Marshfield with her father at the age of 17. She was united in marriage to Walter J. Gessert on October 22, 1943 at Fort Scott, Kansas. He passed away on December 10, 2008. Bernice worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company for 20 years and at Weyerhaeuser Company for another 20 years before retiring. She enjoyed doing cross word puzzles, going for car rides, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Bernice is survived by her sister-in-law, Marie Miller of Green Bay, nieces Pat Gessert of Marshfield, Carolyn (Ken) Hill of Chili and numerous other nieces and nephews Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
