Obituary

During the early morning hours of July 4, 2025, our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Berdeen "Berdee" M. Stroetz, 99, passed away peacefully at Wells Nature View where she had resided for over four years.

A funeral service for Berdee will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 1pm at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in the town of McMillan where she had been a lifetime member. Visitation will be from 11:30 am until the time of service. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield.

Berdee was born on February 26, 1926, to Otto and Ella (Mellenthin) Luther. Her family operated and lived in a cheese factory in McMillan. She married William "Bill" Stroetz on June 15, 1946, and they lived on the Stroetz family farm in McMillan until 1979 when they built a new home. Bill passed away on November 27, 1997. Bill and Berdee enjoyed 51 years together.

Berdee lived a long and interesting life. In the early years she farmed with Bill and was a stay-at-home mom for their children Linda and Dennis. She started working at Karau's Supermarket where she was employed for 30 years. She retired in 1990 as the head cashier.

Outside of work, Bill and Berdee were well known in the draft horse community for sleigh rides in downtown Marshfield, participating in local parades and showing their Belgians at the Central WI State Fair. Following Bill's death in 1997, Berdee enjoyed traveling to her cottage on Lake Nokomis and her park home in Texas. Other interests included music, church activities, crafts, her flower gardens, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Berdee is survived by a daughter Linda (Joe) Kasner and her children Chad and Joel (Sara) Widmann and a son Dennis (Kris) Stroetz and their children Dane (Jenny) Stroetz, Erika (Travis) Beining and Anna (Damon) Stichert, great-grandchildren Logan Widmann, Lexie (Mario) Fonseca, Cooper and Josie Widmann, Derek, Drew and Jake Stroetz, Oliver Beining, and Jackson and Grace Stichert, and great-great-grandson Marcus. Berdee is also survived by her dear sister Betty Wills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

The family is thankful to the staff at Well's Nature View and St. Croix Hospice for their kind and patient care for Berdee.
