Benjamin H. Metternich, 74, of Marshfield died Saturday, April 4 th at the Marshfield Medical Center after a short illness.
A memorial service for Ben will be held at 11:00am Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 at the Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield with Pastor Preston Tippen officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather for visitation from 9am until the time of service at the funeral home.
Ben, named for his maternal grandfather, was born September 14, 1951, in Ashland, WI to Joyce (Metternich) (later Peterson) and John Boggis. He would grow up in the Mercer area, graduating from High School there in 1970.
He came of age in the 1960s, shaped by a world in motion and guided by a mind that never stopped creating. An artist and musician at heart, he found beauty in the everyday and expression in everything he touched, whether through paint, melody, or quiet acts of kindness. He met people where they were - never judging, always listening - and believed deeply in living in the present. His generosity showed not in grand gestures, but in steady, meaningful service; he was a volunteer whose impact rippled through his community and to those in need. Above all, he was a kind, creative soul who made others feel seen, valued, and understood.
Just as the Phoenix rises from its ashes; Ben’s legacy lives on through his sons Moe and Chisim Metternich, and his grandchildren Mariah and Porter Metternich.
His parents preceded him in death.
