Obituary

**Note: The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes** Ben Tritz, age 95, of Pittsville, went home to the Lord and to be back together again with the love of his life, Carol, on Thursday, August 18, 2022. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Ben at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23rd at St. Joachim Catholic Church with Father Nathan Officiating. Music will be provided by Sue Wirtz & Kati Shirmer. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Visitations will be held on Monday evening 4-8 p.m. at the Buchanan/Rembs Funeral Home, and again at church on Tuesday an hour prior to Mass. Interment will take place at St. Joachim Parish Cemetery immediately following Mass. He never wanted a long obituary, so to keep it simple: he always described himself as a "dirt farmer" but those who knew and loved him knew him as a loving, hardworking, and generous husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. There was never an event that he didn't show up 30 minutes early to with his hands full of a fruit salad, sausage and cheese tray, and he also loved serving alcoholic beverages out of his trunk while the corn cooked at the church picnic. Ben loved cheering his grandchildren on during their activities and telling everyone he was the oldest in the room. Ben's true passion in life was farming. As few as two weeks ago he was on the tractor, raking and cutting hay-but no worries he drove slow and never on the road. He said that riding on the tractor was the best medicine for an old farmer. Others might say his passion was visiting with and getting to know others and getting together for lunch, playing sheepshead, dice and dominoes with his neighborhood gang. Ben was born at his family home in Pittsville on January 21, 1927 to Benedict and Susanna (Thielen) Tritz. He was the sixth of fifteen children. He attended Pleasant Corners School, St. Joachim's, and was a 1944 graduate of Pittsville High School. After graduating, he worked on farms, at the canning factory, and at the Nekoosa paper mill. On September 7, 1954 he married the love of his life Carol Hass at St. Joachim's Church in Pittsville. In 1955 they started their family farm where they raised their nine children. He was a lifelong member of St. Joachim's Church where he served as an usher and was actively involved with the Holy Name Society. Ben served as assessor for the Town of Wood and helped plan numerous high school reunions. He is survived by his children Duane (Denise), Bernie, JoAnn (Frank), Nancy (RIchard), Jan (Darrell), Linda, Julie (Todd), and Sandy. He is further survived by his grandchildren who he spoiled immensely. Kati (Al), Casey, Taylor, Nick (Angela), Lindsey (Dillon), Jordan (Laura), Michaela (Jaymes), Aaron (Alyssa), Julia (Josh), Jake, Wes (Brooke), Brianna (Jake), Andy (Ashley), Chantal, Jenea, Greg, Savannah; step-grandchildren Jessica and Adam (Justice). He is also survived by great-grandchildren Austin (Megan), Brendan (Michael), Zach, Zoe, Lyn, Ava, Penelope-Susie to grandpa, Cashton, Connor, Breckyn, Reid, Briggs and four more on the way; great-great grandchildren Easton and Fenton. To many of his grandchildren, he was the only grandparent in their lives; each one knew that Grandpa's love was never ending and special. Grandpa taught them how to drive-that 40-45 was all the faster they needed to go, when driving a tractor "take little turns"-when driving a four-wheeler first gear-not too fast-not too fast and not to hit the hay bales. Grandpa shared his love of farming that most can't understand, was the first one to lend a helping hand, cut the crust off their sandwiches, and took them on "bumpy wagon rides." Other survivors include siblings Delphine Kaiser, Don (Virginia), Harold, Ralph (Carrie), Sue (Jerry) Wirtz, Lee (Judy); sisters-in-law Sandy Tritz, Ellen Petersen, Rose Uher; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Margaret Dunn and her family. He is preceded in death by his wife Carol, son Bob, son-in-law Joe Peaslee, his parents, siblings and in-laws Marita and Joe Krause, Gertrude, Magdalen, Sister Mary Hope, Norman and Loretta, Cyril and Marian, Marvin and Kathy, Ruth, Kenneth, August and Viola Hass, Ruth Berlepsch, Earl Hass, Melvin Uher, Don Petersen, John and Betty Hendrichs, Esther Hass, George Neuchirchen, and Arlene and Stanley Kealiher. Well, you wanted us to keep it short, but sorry, Dad, you had a big family and a great life. We love you.
