Barbara Schmidt, 84, Pittsville, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Veedum Moravian Church, Pittsville where visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Rev. Vicki Jens Page will officiate. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will take place at Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date. Buchanan/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Barb was born on May 4, 1937 at Idaville, Indiana to Floyd and Eva (Wortman) Sparks.
She was a graduate of Pittsville Schools and was employed as a health care worker for more than 25 years and also served as Treasurer for the Township of Cary for 29+ years.
In September 1956, she married Dean Dickson. They were blessed with 6 children. In July 1979, he died as a result of a car accident. In May 1985, she married Allen Schmidt.
She was a 45-year member of Palmer-Ritchie-Thomas American Legion Auxiliary, Pittsville. As a member she served as officer of the group in various positions.
Her church membership was at Veedum Moravian Church, Pittsville where she took part in many activities besides attending weekly worship.
She is survived by husband Allen; children Glen (Jane) Dickson; Craig (Wei) Dickson, John Kent (Lori) Dickson; Karen Schmitt; Jan (Karen) Dickson; Angela Wirkus; stepchildren Dave (Faith) Schmidt and Diane (Bill) Gobin.
Also surviving are grandchildren; April, Tina, Eileen, Arthur, Parker, Holly, Marnie, Tim, Sara, Allyson, James, Mike, Dustin and great grandchildren Grace, Benjamin, Andrew, Kaelyn, Easton, Liliana & Micah; step grandchildren Laura, Joshua, Rachel and Kayla and step great grandchildren Jonathan, Katherine, Caroline and Lincoln.
Further survivors are sister Elsie, sisters-in-law, Anita Freedlund and Carolyn (Rodney) Freedlund and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Dean, her parents, brothers Jerry and Tom Sparks, granddaughter Shelly, sister-in-law Sonja Pope and nine stepbrothers and 2 stepsisters predeceased her.
