Alvera A. Soppe, 96, Vesper, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Golden Living Center, Three Oaks in Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, November 6, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church, Vesper, with Rev. Robert Nelson officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday at Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home, Pittsville and from 9:30 am on Friday until service time at St. James Catholic Church. A St. James Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Alvera was born on June 7, 1919 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Berger) Wiederien where she graduated from parochial school. She was united in marriage to Leo F. Soppe on April 23, 1946 in Carroll, Iowa. He died on June 25, 1979.
Alvera and her family moved to Wisconsin in 1963 and she and her husband farmed in the Vesper area. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tending to and photographing her flowers, music and dancing. She also enjoyed traveling and fulfilled her dream of going to Hawaii as well as trips throughout the United States. She especially cherished time spent with her family.
She is survived by her children, Liana (John) Weinfurter, Keith (Joyce) Soppe, Donna (Donald) Perlock, Bonny (Bob) Fritsch, Sharon (Tim) Kitzmann, and Ruby (Tom) Hill. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She is further survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Katie Buelt and Catherine Wiederien and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Anna in infancy, a daughter, Jolene Reckner, a son Dale Soppe, a great grandson, Andrew, and 3 brothers, Elmer, Merle, and Virgil Wiederien.
