Alphonse " Al " Joseph Diers, Jr. age 72 of Marshfield entered thru the gates of heaven on Wednesday, July 8th, 2015 at St Joseph's Hospital due to complications from cancer. He lost his nearly two year battle after being diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer in September 2013.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield where Father Samuel Martin will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at Rembs Funeral Home and on Thursday from 9:30 am until service time at St. John's Catholic Church. There will be a family rosary recited at 6:30pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Al was born on March 4th, 1943 in Marshfield to Alphonse C. Diers, and Leona (Meyer) Diers. He attended Stratford Elementary before moving to Marshfield where he attended Marshfield Catholic Grade Schools and Columbus High School.
Al is known by many as being a kind and giving man, always ready to help someone in need. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren who gave him such great joy.
Al was an amazing woodworker and gardener who was always building and fixing things for his extended family. He and his wife enjoyed thrifting for collectibles together. Thru the years he volunteered his time as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, little league coach and he not only volunteered his time as a firefighter in the Hewitt fire department but worked his way up to rank of Chief. After retiring in 2002, his generosity continued by volunteering his time delivering Meals on Wheels while making and donating Intarsia to various charities.
He married Janet Marie Kohlbeck at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hewitt, WI on February 26th, 1963. They resided in Hewitt until 1994 when they moved to Marshfield. They spent the winter months at their home in Mission, TX during the last five years. He worked for Thomas' Supermarket in his early years, before embarking on a 38 year career with Felker Brothers Manufacturing in 1965.
He is survived by his wife Janet, three children: Sherri Ann (Michael) Spencer of Marshfield, WI, Daniel Lee (Lisa) Diers of Erin, WI, and Scott Joseph (Kim) Diers of Wausau, WI, four Grandchildren: Ross (Celia) Spencer of Wasilla, AK, Jacob (Anna) Diers of Brown Deer, WI, Benjamin (Megan) Diers of Green Bay, WI and Laura (Ryan) Schilling of Marshfield, WI, as well as one step grandson Austin Strowig of Wausau, WI.
He was a great grandfather of four including Wyatt and Vayda Diers of Green Bay, Darrien Schilling of Marshfield, and Harrison Diers of Brown Deer. He was looking forward to meeting his fifth great grandchild due in January.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alphonse Sr. and Leona Diers, brothers-in-law and sisters- in-law Patrick Quirt, Dennis Tesmer, Geraldine Kohlbeck, Robert Kohlbeck, and nephew Kevin VerKilen.
His siblings include LaMalle (George) Winkler of Marshfield, WI, Valeria Quirt of Marshfield, WI, and Mary (James) Stuart of Mission, TX.
He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend who will be forever missed by everyone who knew him.
