Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Donna. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Allen was born on October 29, 1943, outside of Abbotsford in Holton Township, Marathon County, to Eldred and Avenelle (Bender) Empey. He graduated from Abbotsford High School. He was united in marriage to Donna M. Schmidt on October 5, 1963, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Dorchester.
Allen dedicated 50 years of his life to cheesemaking, beginning in Dorchester before becoming a plant manager in Casco. In 1974, he moved to Rozellville, where he managed Grand Meadow Dairy for the next 28 years. Throughout his career, Allen won numerous local and regional awards, and earned a 3rd place finish at the world competition in the fresh Colby category. In 2007, he was awarded a lifetime membership in the Central Wisconsin Cheesemakers and Butter Makers Association. Allen was also active in the Lions Club, serving as president, and enjoyed giving back to his community by coaching Little League softball in Rozellville and youth basketball. He also played softball and basketball and enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, especially at the family's cabin in Phillips. Allen believed that "everybody here has a name, not just a number," a philosophy that reflected the way he viewed and treated others.
He is survived by his children, Jayne (Tony) Kromanaker of Appleton and Jon (Peggy) Empey of Auburndale. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Ben (Skylee) Kromanaker, Rachel (Brevon) Merritt, Carver (Louisa) Empey, Parker Empey, and Keegan Empey, and a great granddaughter, Ingrid Empey. He is further survived by his siblings, George Empey, Larry Empey, Nancy Ploeckelman, and Roger Empey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, Nathaniel Empey, and great granddaughter, Madeline Empey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be designated at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Stoney River Assisted Living and Memory Care for their wonderful care.
