Obituary

Alberta J. Strey, age 96, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the home of her daughter, Margaret.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, April 5th, at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 am until the start of the service at St. John's Catholic Church.

Alberta was born on February 16, 1928, in Prairie Du Chien to Frank and Stella (LaBonne) Lloyd, a proud decedent of two of the four founding families of Prairie Du Chien.

Alberta's family moved to Marshfield in 1941. She graduated from Marshfield Sr. High in 1945. She worked at the offices of Roddis Plywood after graduation until she met Raymond A. Strey. They were joined together in Holy Matrimony on May 29, 1948, at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. They farmed in the Loyal-Granton area for many years until moving to Marshfield in June of 1989. Raymond died on August 27, 2007.

Alberta loved reading, crocheting, camping, riding on the motorcycle & ATV's and spending time with family.

She is survived by her children, Jean (Joe) Faber of Marshfield, Mike (Vicki) Strey of Wittenberg, Duane (Jeanne) Strey of Granton, Ruth (Dennis) Erickson of Spencer, Ronald (Diane) Strey of Marshfield, Daniel (Dawn) Strey of Sheldon and Margaret (David) Straka of Vesper. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.

She is further survived by her siblings Gert (Bob) Feirer of Marshfield, Betty Hornung of Wausau, Judy Dix of Appleton, Karen (Lee) Schmoll of Lake Wales FL, Dan Lloyd of Mayer AZ, sisters-in-law Marge Lloyd of West Bend, Darlene Lloyd of Marshfield and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Terrance Strey along with two great-grandsons Isaac and Caleb Strey. Brothers Frances, Jim, Patrick and Harry Lloyd, sisters Verlene Hebert, Arlita Frantz, Helen Paun, brothers-in-law Ward Hebert, Ken Frantz, Wally Hornung, Larry Dix, and Joe Paun and sisters-in-law Virene Lloyd, Donna Lloyd.

A special expression of gratitude is extended to the compassionate staff at Compassus Hospice Care, as well as to nurses Maranna and Nicole, and volunteer Diane Moss.
