Obituary for Laurie A. Elmhorst

Laurie Anne Elmhorst, 63, of Marshfield passed away peacefully after a long courageous battle with cancer on Friday, March 1, 2019 with her family by her side at the House of the Dove.

A celebration of life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Stratford, WI on Friday, March 8th. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Sue Eidahl will officiate. Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to join the family for a luncheon and fellowship following the service.

Laurie was born on February 11, 1956 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to George and Anne (Krueger) FLoeter. She obtained her GED from Mid-State Technical College and later returned to school at Mid-State Technical College to become a Surgical Tech. She married the love of her life Darrel C. Elmhorst on December 20, 1976. In December 2001, their daughter Megan surprised them with a renewal of their vows at Immanuel Lutheran Church for their 25th Wedding Anniversary. Together they raised two children, Joshua and Megan. Her children where the light of her life and later her grandchildren completed her.

Laurie's passion was her family above all else. She was a homemaker who was devoted to raising her two children while Darrel was an over-the-road truck driver. She had many special gifts. Her way with words could bring you to tears, and her laugh was contagious. She was an amazingly talented artist who loved drawing, painting, art journaling, and creating beautiful jewelry. She waited patiently for and so looked forward to the day she became a grandma. Her two beautiful granddaughters, Averi (3) and Mila (2), gave her purpose to continue to fight cancer with a vengeance. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with 'gramma's girls.'

She is lovingly survived by her husband Darrel Elmhorst of Marshfield, son Joshua Elmhorst (Erin Thimmesch) of Marshfield, daughter Megan (Pat) Johnson and granddaughters, Averi and Mila Johnson of Stratford. She is further survived by her brother Garry (Betty) Krueger of Rudolph and nieces Kim (Shannon) Crabb, Pamela (Dan) Williamson, and Rebecca Krueger.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Anne Floeter as well as two infant sibling at birth Vicki and Dougie.

The family would like extend sincere thanks to the Oncology staff, Neuro-Oncology staff, and Radiation Oncology staff at Marshfield Medical Center for their amazing care over the last four years. The family would especially like to thank the staff of the House of the Dove for the loving care she received in her final days.

She loved the color blue and asked that everyone wear blue to her celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for the House of Dove memorial in Laurie's name.

Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com.
