Emma E. Powell, 91, Marshfield, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Miller Alternative Care, Marshfield.
Private funeral services are being held at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, with Pastor Larry Sheahan officiating. Burial will take place in Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Town of Richfield, Wood County.
Emma was born on June 4, 1921 in City Point, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ole and Pearl (Hancock) Cox. She attended Meadow Valley country school and New Lisbon High School.
She was united in marriage to Edwin R. Powell on March 25, 1939 by Judge A.C. Warfield in Marshfield. Emma was employed in domestic work thirty years, retiring in August 1976. Emma and Ed moved to Musser Lake in Phillips at that time.
Emma was a great lover of flowers and birds and also enjoyed walks and reading. In June 1992 the Powell’s returned to Marshfield. They celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary before Edwin’s passing on August 11, 2009.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Miller of Marshfield, daughter-in-law, Sharon (Dwight) Dole of Dresser; three grandchildren, Jason Powell, Angela (Russ) School, and Brian (Lianne) Miller; five great grandchildren, Rob Powell, Hannah, Megan and Mitchell School and Paige Miller; and one great great granddaughter. She is further survived by a brother, Harold Cox of Wisconsin Rapids, and a sister, Helen Richer of Tomah and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edwin, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert, from Hodgkins Lymphoma March 18, 1967, seven brothers, Carl, Bobby, Evert Glen, Clifford, Gordon, Oscar, and Freddie and a sister Mabel.
